Due to the success of my first shoot, I wanted to go back to the same locations and experiment further with very similar aspects of my hometown. The key difference between this shoot and the first shoot which I aimed to be a clear difference was the perspective, as all my images within the first shoot were taken in a portrait perspective, I wanted to experiment with the same aspect of historic ruins although in a landscape format instead, to see whether it did end up making any difference. Furthermore, as spoken about in my shoot 1 work record, I aim to end up with a cohesive series of images which have key running similarities and I personally think the biggest contribution to this would be the final image as a result to both editing styles but also the original camera settings which I shoot in. As shoot 2 is a very similar shoot/ re shoot of shoot 1, I have aimed to used the same photographer influences such as Hilla and Brend but also work shown in my Image bank by photographer Topley who also captured ruins. I believe both set of photographers are good/key influences for the aims for this shoot because mixed together these photographers create my intentions- Hilla and Brend shoot in a really interesting "head on" effect which I managed to capture in shoot 1 and again this mixed with ruins in the style of Topley's work I think should be successful.What I actually achieved:
I had originally shot this for my shoot 1 in portrait form however, I did not think that it work very successfully due to the shaping of the ruins. Using a tripod, I was able to frame this image so the gates were in the centre of the frame and the bricks surrounded it. When researching for this shoot, I found lots of interesting ruins which I decided to shoot, this one in particular was originally a jail for drunk people which was positioned on the walls of the church. However, now this is always locked and no one can ever go in there as a way of preserving the historic nature of the town. I think this image is very symbolic which associating it with the context because when I always pass this part of town, there are always kids climbing on top of it, damaging it, yet this was a place of punishment. I decided to edit this shoot in black and white as you can see from my straight images which I think was much more successful than this in colour, this is because when I went out on this shoot, the weather was really nice and bright which meant the colours were so vibrate- including the bricks and the grass in the foreground. However, I believe this took attention away from the historic aspect of the image.
I think this image shows how I am developing my work in this project because I went to this location during my last shoot and I was really happy with the outcome on the use of framing. Therefore I wanted to reshoot this image in a landscape style. I think this image is very successful as a whole because the centre of the image frames around a tree which is one of the main aspects of the image in the terms of symbolism because I think this whole image has captured ways that even when society changes around certain aspects stay the same. For example, this tree will be really old- much like the ruins which surround it. The texture created by the ruins on the wall is also another aspect of this image which I think is successful.
Even though I believe this image works in terms of old ruin structures of an old bridge I do believe this is one of my weaker images of this series as the poles across the screen block out some of the focus. Additionally, I think this image could have worked better if the lighting was better- if I had captured this image when the sun was out much like the ones taken above. Furthermore I do not think this image is as successful as the others because it appears to be quite "flat" and bland not including much for my audience to look at.
What I am going to do next:
As a whole I am quite happy with the results of this shoots, however, when comparing the images from shoot 2 with shoot 1, I do believe the portrait method worked quite a bit better because it made it easier for me to capture "framing" in the images. Although I still do believe I will use some of these images when it comes to choosing my top images from this project. To continue and further this project, I believe this shoot has shown me to try and experiment with a variety of different parts, as I only went back to certain ruins which I had already shot- as an attempt of experimentation, I didn't gain that many images in result. Therefore, I believe in my forth coming shoots I think I should take more pictured because this way it would be easier to show my progression through the elimination of the images.
