Plans for this Shoot:
The aim for this shoot was to capture small aspects of my home town using a head on approach in order to recreate an "historic" appearance across my series. Overall I think this was a successful shoot as I purely shot in portrait format in order to create a running theme of my images. Even though I was happy with the landscape images I took I wanted to separate them so the theme ran much better. The main aim was the focus on my camera settings, this is because I was to create as similar images to each as I could- with similar focal length and also by trying to keep the ISO the same. I found that when I done this shoot, there were lots of small clouds causing the sun to keep coming in and out changing the lighting in some of my images making some of them duller than others.
What I actually achieved:
I think this is the most intriguing image across this shoot because it almost appears to be a gateway to another world this is because of the contrast made in the colouring- the bold orange and brown tones contrast against the bright green grass. I think this is one of my most strongest images within this shoot as well because I think it resembles my intentions to this first shoot as best as I could have. Further more, the running theme across this shoot was framing and I believe this image captures this really well. Another aspect to this image which I find adds to the reason this is my strongest image is that the tree through the arch is central between the walls making it satisfyingly pleasing to look at. The texture created on the wall helps add to the depth of field in this image alongside showing the historic concept which I was intending to do.
Even though I think this image has created texture in order to present a historic aspect to this image, I do think this is one of my weakest images within this shoot because I do not think there is enough depth created in the photo making it appear quite flat. This may have been because the angle of the sun made a lack of shadowing across the image. A way this could have been helped could have been to focus on the inside of the frame/ gate rather than on the walls. Another aspect why I believe this image is weaker than images such as the one above is the dull colouring in this. Even though in my final edits I have made them all black and white so colouring is quite hard to differ between, I think it is too bland and boring in comparison with my other photos.
What I am going to do next:
Overall I am really happy with this shoot as I think it has worked really well. I think I will be able to take my learnings from this shoot in order to progress my project further. The main aspects I think that has worked the best in this shoot is the idea of the perspective which I have taken my photos in- head on shoot. Furthermore, I think the locations of this shoot worked really well so in my next shoot, I will be experimenting with the same locations, however in the next shoot I wish to experiment within a landscape format rather than a portrait one.
